Event Highlights

The fifth Vintage Shamrock will start west of Dublin on Monday 6 May 2024, an easy drive from the international air and ferry ports. After a morning of Scrutineering and other formalities we’ll set out on the first afternoon to explore the estates, private houses and roads of Counties Meath, Kildare and Cavan.

On the second day we will strike further west (and a little north) to the rugged Wild Atlantic Way, basing ourselves in the beautiful estate town of Westport, County Mayo for the next three nights. This bustling hub, designed by the renowned architect James Wyatt and overlooked by the impressive Croagh Patrick mountain, is the perfect spot for an evening’s exploration of the vast array of restaurants, pubs and lively music sessions.

During the days we will avail of the best driving roads that this part of Ireland has to offer and explore more of the private estates and exclusive grounds that are normally not available to the public.

We will head both south into the remote mountains of the Connemara National Park and north to explore the less well trodden paths of this countryside that was so beloved by the poet W B Yeats and provided inspiration for many of his works including “Lake Isle of Innisfree”. Covering Counties Galway, Sligo and Mayo, which are all new territory for the Shamrock, the route will contain some of the best scenery on the Emerald Isle.

We invite you and your cars to enjoy the unique character of the Vintage Shamrock, in the company of fellow enthusiasts of pre-war motoring.

Eligible Cars:

Pre-war cars of a specification produced before 31 December 1945. Please check with us if you are not sure if your car is eligible.

Competition:

There will be a number of Regularity sections each day on twisty but quiet minor roads. There will also be a variety of Tests on private land, ranging from car parks and farm tracks to hill-climbs and purpose built motorsport venues.

Roads used:

The route will be mainly on asphalt surfaces although some tests and regularity sections may use good gravel and grass surfaces. We use minor roads to explore areas that few tourists will ever see, some of which may be bumpy, but we go out of our way to avoid rough and pot-holed roads.

Hospitality:

Four nights’ accommodation is provided as part of the entry fee, along with a group dinner on three of those evenings. Refreshments at lunch and coffee halts will also be provided in a variety of venues. On Day 2 there will be a van to assist with transporting your luggage between hotels (sensible weight restrictions will apply).

Navigation:

All of the route will be defined in detailed Road Books issued on a daily basis. Non-competitive sections and some of the Regularity Sections will be defined by Tulip diagrams. Other sections may require some basic map reading but all of the required map extracts will be provided.
