AN AFRICAN ‘GAME DRIVE’ LIKE NO OTHER

We are heading to East Africa for the inaugural ‘Southern Cross Safari’ in February 2020. Set in Kenya and Tanzania, our amazing route will take competitors through both Masai Mara and Serengeti National Reserves before finishing on the shores of the Indian Ocean.

“This rally will be a superb introduction to East Africa with magnificent and very changeable scenery and some great accommodation”

Rally Director, Fred Gallagher, started his recce in November 2018 from Nairobi. Fred is using knowledge built up over many years in rallying as well as (in Fred’s words) “what seemed to be quite detailed maps”.  However, the world isn’t mapped as accurately as we might think and Fred was glad he had old rally friend, Jan Thoenes, on hand to provide some additional local knowledge.

Fred’s determined to ensure a route that avoids the crowds to visit the more exclusive game reserves, whilst also making sure we stay in top notch safari lodges and hotels.  This determination made it one of the toughest classic recces Fred has done.

“Some of the remote gravel roads were in good condition and some definitely weren’t. Also, some of the chosen lodges and hotels weren’t up to the luxurious standard we want to give our rally family members” says Fred. “We went to bed a few nights determined to find something better in the morning and we always succeeded. I’m confident that this rally will be a superb introduction to East Africa with magnificent and very changeable scenery and some great accommodation,” Fred concluded.
